I. Celiac Trunk

II. Mesenteric Arteries

<I. Celiac Trunk>

Celiac Trunk

  1. CHA (Common Hepatic A.) ; ~retroperitoneal
  2. PHA: Proper Hepatic Artery ; intraperitoneal~
  3. Cystic a.
  4. GDA: Gastroduodenal Artery
  5. Right and Left Gastric Artery: RGA: from proper hepatic a. // LGA: directly from celiac trunk
  6. RGOA: Right Gastroomental Artery, from gastroduodenal a.
  7. LGOA: Left Gastroomental Artery, from splenic a.
  8. SA: Splenic Artery; supplies spleen and pancreas
  9. Superior Pancreaticoduodenal Artery: from gastroduodenal a.
  10. Inferior Pancreaticoduodenal Artery: from superior mesenteric a.

<II. Mesenteric Arteries>

Mesenteric Arteries

  1. Superior Mesenteric Artery (L1): intraperitoneal, to the root of mesentery (oblique line; from jejunoduodenal flexure (left of L2) to right iliac fossa)
  2. MCA: Middle Colic Artery: intraperitoneal.
    *Arch of Riolan: anastomosis between middle colic a. and left colic a.
  3. RCA: Right Colic Artery: retroperitoneal → ascending colon
  4. Jejunal, ileal, appendicular branches: anastomoses inbetween; bypasses easily.
  5. ICA: Ileocolic Artery
  6. IMA: Inferior Mesenteric Artery; give rise to LCA, Sigmoid a., and Superior Rectal a. *anastomoses btw. any 2 branches; bypass available in case of acclusion (thrombus)
  7. SRA: Superior Rectal Artery: intraperitoneal
  8. Sigmoid a.: intraperitoneal
  9. LCA: Left Colic Artery: retroperitoneal

<Framework>

  1. Celiac trunk: left lobe of liver removed
  2. Superior Mesenteric a.: large intestine; transverse colon with Greater Omentum, transverse mesocolon; small intestine kept in place for mesentery.
  3. Inferior Mesenteric a.: more to right upper part

Misc. structures in the region:

  1. Portal vein: hepatoduodenal lig.
  2. Fork: duodenum pressing on 2 large vessels: abdominal aorta, inferior vena cava; SMA et v.
  3. Sympathetic plexus: superior mesenteric ganglion; embedded in mesentery, accompanied with vessels.
  4. Treitz Hernia: retroperitoneal hernia; in duodenojenunal flexure.
